FAQ: Dungeon Denizens
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

What is the estimated page count?

The 5E edition will be approximately 500 pages and the DCC edition will be approximately 400 pages.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:17

Why is the DCC edition a different price than the 5E edition?

DCC stat blocks are smaller than 5E stat blocks, and therefore the same number of stat blocks occupy fewer pages, even with art. The DCC edition will be about 100 pages shorter than the 5E edition.

Which pledge items are exclusive to this project and won’t be offered through distribution?

Several items in this project won’t be offered through distribution, due to various limiting factors. Retailers who wish to carry them should purchase them with the retailer pledge level. These special items include the limited edition reptile-hide cover, the cardstock pawns, and the T-shirts.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

Is the limited edition cover made from real reptile skin?

No. The limited edition cover is printed using Pythore, a specialized bookbinding material that is imprinted with a reptile-hide texture. It’s not actually made from real reptiles, though! But it looks surprisingly similar to snakeskin.

Are there really 500 monsters in the book?

There are AT LEAST 500 monster stat blocks in the book. With stretch goals we hope it will be many more!

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

How will the stretch goal monsters be included?

Stretch goal monsters will be printed in a special appendix at the back of the book. (Backer-submitted monsters will also appear here.) This appendix will be bound into the Kickstarter edition of the book. Distribution editions will not include it.

What is the estimated shipping charge for the US?

Shipping charge for JUST THE DUNGEON DENIZENS BOOK will be approximately $13 in the USA. (500 monsters weigh a lot!) If you also have add-on items, that will increase the weight.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

What are estimated shipping charges for international destinations?

International postage for JUST THE DUNGEON DENIZENS BOOK with a US origin point is estimated at approximately $35 for CAN/EU/UK, and approximately $50-60 for most other countries. That total does not include VAT or customs fees. As mentioned, this estimate is based on a US origin point, and we plan to actually ship from local points of origin. Our plan is to ship EU/UK destinations from a UK origin point, AUS/NZ from an AUS origin point, and CAN from a Canada origin point, which will lower the final shipping cost.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

Will I have to pay VAT or customs fees?

Our plan is to ship EU/UK destinations from a UK origin point, AUS/NZ from an AUS origin point, and CAN from a Canada origin point. VAT and customs fees will be based on your country’s negotiations with those origin points. We will accurately represent the nature of the commercial goods included in the package.

If I pledged for this Kickstarter, I get a bonus monster, right?

If you pledge for this Kickstarter, you automatically get the bonus monster. It will be on a special page that is tipped-in to the binding. That page will not appear in the distribution edition of the book.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

How do I get the other bonus monster for pledging in the first 48 hours?

Backers who pledge in the first 48 hours will receive an additional bonus monster. This will be printed on a separate page not bound into the book. This page will not appear in the distribution edition of the book.

How do I get the BackerKit bonus monster?

Backers who followed the project on BackerKit pre-launch will receive an additional bonus monster. This will be printed on a separate page not bound into the book. This page will not appear in the distribution edition of the book.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:20

How do I submit a monster design as a backer?

If you pledge at least $30, you are eligible to submit a monster of your own design. The number of monster designs we accept will be based on the number of project backers. Full details on the submission process will be released about 3 weeks after the project closes.

How long has Dungeon Denizens been in the works?

For a long time! We started working on this edition of the book several years ago, and Goodman Games has published prior editions under the 3.5 and 4E rules sets. (Those editions didn’t have anywhere close to as many creatures, though.)

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:23

Will this book be published with the OGL?

Work began on Dungeon Denizens long ago, and it will be published using the OGL.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:23

Will the Dungeon Denizens 5E edition be compatible with One D&D?

Wizards of the Coast has publicly stated that One D&D will be backward compatible with 5E. According to Kyle Brink, Executive Producer of D&D, on Feb. 7, 2023: “All of One D&D will be compatible with the SRD…. 100% compatible. Anything you build with the SRD will work with the new rules.” (3 Black Halflings YouTube Video, timestamp 26:40)

I’m new to DCC, tell me more about it!

DCC RPG is a fun, fast-paced role playing game that’s easy to learn. You can download Quick Start Rules for free on the Goodman Games online store. Our online store also offers a First Time Fan Kit which is an affordable, easy way to get started with the game.

Can I pledge at the $1 level and get stretch goals and/or add-ons in the pledge manager stage?

If you pledge at the $1 level, you will be able to adjust your pledge later in the pledge manager stage. However, we can’t guarantee you will be able to get all add-ons or Kickstarter exclusives at that stage. We determine the print run based on the number of pledges at completion of the Kickstarter. There MIGHT be additional copies available if backers drop out or the printers overprint. If that happens we will offer those copies to the $1 backers. You will definitely be able to add the distribution edition in the pledge manager stage.

What tables are featured on the GM screen?

The 5E GM screen includes tables of monsters organized by CR, terrain, type, size, etc. The DCC GM screen includes more tables to make monsters unique (thematically similar to the Make Monsters Unique section of the core rulebook) as well as monster-specific critical hit tables. Basically, more tables to add more monster weirdness!

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:23

What’s included in the pawns set?

All 500 monsters are included in the printed cardstock pawns! This includes monsters as small as Tiny and all the way up to Gargantuan size.

Last updated: February 21, 2023 09:23

Will pawns and/or VTT tokens be made for the stretch goal monsters?

The stretch goal monsters will be illustrated, and those illustrations will appear in the VTT token packs. We do not plan to include the stretch goal monsters in the pawns. If there is sufficient interest after the project concludes, we could potentially work with the printer to spec out an add-on item which is a few additional pages of cardstock pawns including the stretch goal creatures.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
